It’s September, and that means it’s time for Goroka Show! I’m going to let the pictures mostly speak for themselves.
This old-man children kill me
Obligatory Penis Gourd guys
So many bird of paradise feathers in this guys hat
Last year I focused mostly on the large group photos. This year I tried to get more close-ups of the face paint and headdresses.
One of my favourites: a bamboo band
In the left pic they are pointing at a drone carrying a video camera
These ladies said I should sing and dance with them. But I told them (in broken Tok Pisin) if I dressed up in their bilas I’d burn my boobs – they thought it was pretty funny.
Mt Hagen ladies – another favourite
Lots of bow-and-arrows to fend off those pesky bears…
Headdresses of all shapes, sizes, and complexity
The scary groups, including the Asaro Mud Men (top right)
So much beautiful face paint – some close-ups below
